Attorney-General to repay family travel expenses
Attorney-General Michelle Rowland will repay a portion of the expenses she claimed for a taxpayer-funded trip taken with her family to Perth, after the travel watchdog found some of the spending was outside parliamentary guidelines.
What we know:
-
Rowland referred the expenses to the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) for a $21,000 trip in 2023, including $16,050 in flights for her family (ABC).
-
On Sunday, Treasurer Jim Chalmers rejected calls for Rowland to step down, saying “Michelle has done the right thing in asking the IPEA to take another look” (SBS).
-
Rowland’s decision makes her the first minister to reimburse taxpayers in the growing parliamentary expenses scandal (The Guardian).
